Time to Catalog! NOT!

Libary thing is a fun little web site. I will not, and do not have the time to use this as it is intended. I also used the tag feature for little notes instead of "cataloging" purposes.
I liked the Unsuggester - neat!

Generate this!

That was fun. There are a lot of "crude" generator tricks out there.
Again, all in the name of work!

RSS (things 8 & 9)

Wow! Information overload!!!!
Positives : I learned what RSS means. I have seen and read some funny things after subscribing to the "Got Laughs" feed and got to call it "work". Found out QVC has a feed.
Not so positives: In my personal life, I do not spend a lot of time searching the web. I watch the 11:00 news and that is my news for the day. I don't visit many websites. So, why would I need all this information every day? How would I use this technology as a Youth Services Librarian? Anyone got ideas they can share with me?

Blog about technology

Well.... there are two ways I look at it.
First - yippee, bravo, and cool - I get to email my sisters who are in other states in the middle of the night or early morning. I can have 3 way conference calls with my sisters. I can download music from itunes that reminds me of a different time with a different set of friends (get out of my life why don't you babe..oh, oh, oh. Cause you don't really love me. You just keep me hanging on....) :)

Second - I consider myself a technology widow on most days. What does my husband's computer have that I don't have. A mouse? So what!! So, there are lots of disadvantages to technology too. And for the people who just cannot LIVE without their cell phones, I always think of what my dad said when we tried to get him to buy one - "Why would I want your mom to be able to call me at anytime?" He now has one, but doesn't use it. And people talking on their phones during storytimes. Come on, when did that become okay to do?
I'll stop now.

Lovely picture I found using color match. But again, why would I use this tool? It was very nice looking at lots photos that matched the shade of blue I chose. But?.......

Flickr- the tools are fun (the billboard and trading card for example). For personal use, the rest of Flickr doesn't seem relevant to me. I think it is more beneficial to photographers and artists and to people who want to share photos with other family members. So, overall not too impressed with Flickr.

71/2 Habits

Interesting....

Listening to the tutorial made me do a bit of thinking. So, here is my "quick and not so dirty" take on the 71/2 habits:

1. Begin with the end in mind. That works when what you are "learning" is a positive thing. Something that doesn't throw you into a panic attack when you do think of what the end will hold or how far away the end is.
2. Accept responsibility.... I do ask questions a lot (mostly because of my forgetfulness)
3. View problems as challenges. This is something I need to work on. I just need to remind myself to be as positive as I can and not get into a huge frenzy.

4. Have confidence... I'll try!
5. Learning toolbox. Every minute of my LIFE is my toolbox.
6. Use technology to your advantage. Got the ipod, got the basic knowledge of computers (at least more than my parents!!) Should have gotten a radar detector for RT 81 over the holidays. That would have been to my advantage.
7. Teach and mentor others. I suppose I do this all the time as well. I just don't think of it the way 71/2 habits would like me to think of it.
71/2. Play. Yippee. This is hard for me too because I often put other people's needs in front of mine and therefore I don't have a lot of time to play. (do you hear the violins playing?)

So what have I learned? I think I just need to learn how to CHILL OUT!! (and not feel guilty about it when I do)
